This
lovely lady is DOREEN PERRY,
and below she is sharing with us her
fabulous photos from
BUTLINS AYR |
1953

Lucky
camper who won a bottle of champagne. It must have been a Saturday, as
we all
wore kilts to welcome the new campers to Scotland, on Saturdays.
L-R: Pearl, Doreen Perry (me), camper
called Ann, Sheila Crook, and Jack.

Charlie Fowles (Camp Comic)
with my sister Margaret and her friend. |

The
usual fun and games at the swimming pool, Sunday morning, to
the delight of the campers and dismay of the Redcoats! Knocker White
was
looking as
if proceedings were going a little over the top. Needless to say, if it
got to a
certain point, there was little or nothing one could do to stop it.
Holding
the
children back, L-R: Mary, Doreen Perry (me), Colleen
Hilliard, Kathy Clemson.

And here is the
pool we were all trying so hard not to get thrown into.

Possibly
1954. Birmingham Re-union
Ron
Baker, Doreen Perry, Lillian Perry, (mother) and friend.
Met Des O' Connor
there. Don't remember which camp he was at.

1955 AYR. End of Season Redcoat
Party
L-R: Marjorie Greenhaulgh, Kathy Clemson, Joyce
Wyatt, me, Steve or Stan,
Lou Grant standing.

The strange thing about all this, is
that we are talking about times which were only a few years after the
war, when a lot of Campers were holidaying again for the first time,
and many with husbands and fathers recently home. The "Mix and Mingle "
phrase we lived by, to see that everyone was happy, certainly made
sense.
